Technological advancements originating in BRICS nations are reshaping global agriculture, positioning the bloc as a key driver of sustainable farming practices and food security worldwide. These innovations are now influencing agricultural strategies across other developing countries, fostering knowledge sharing and capacity building.
According to Hossein Shirzad, a researcher at Shahid Beheshti University, BRICS countries are transforming agriculture through strategic investments in precision farming, biotechnology, and data-driven approaches. These technologies enable more efficient use of water, fertilizers, and pesticides while reducing environmental impact and resource waste.
China, for example, has leveraged satellite imagery and drone technology to enhance real-time crop monitoring and optimize resource management. Meanwhile, Brazil has achieved substantial yield increases by developing genetically modified soybeans resistant to pests—setting global benchmarks for productivity and sustainability.
Shirzad emphasizes that these advances are not only enhancing domestic production but are also reshaping global supply chains. Brazil’s leadership in agricultural biotechnology has strengthened its position as a top exporter of soy and beef, while China’s influence in grain and vegetable markets continues to grow.
The adoption of BRICS-led agricultural technologies in other developing nations highlights the bloc’s growing role in promoting innovation-driven solutions. This trend marks a shift toward a more multipolar and cooperative global agricultural landscape.
As BRICS+ evolves as a collaborative platform for emerging economies, its influence on the future of global agriculture is set to expand even further.
